Data controller and contact

Merito Media LLC, the publisher of SelfChapter, is responsible for the processing described in this policy. Its mailing address and access to the group’s contact details are provided in the identification section of this page.

For questions about your data or to exercise your rights, use SelfChapter’s contact form and indicate “Privacy,” or write to the postal address. Do not send identity documents or sensitive information unless necessary and requested in a proportionate way to verify a request.

Newsletter data and purpose

We process your email address, the language and country of the edition, subscription identifiers and status, request, confirmation and unsubscribe dates, the version of your consent, and technical delivery results. Your email address is stored encrypted; a hash of the address lets us locate the subscription and prevent duplicates.

We use this data to send the confirmation and, once confirmed, the requested editions. The legal basis is your consent. Your email address is required for the newsletter, but not to read the website. Subscribing to SelfChapter does not add you to other publications.

We do not use individual open-tracking pixels. If your email application loads the publication’s logo or other images, a technical request is made to the image server; we do not use that load to create a reading profile.

Confirmation, withdrawal of consent and unsubscribe

The confirmation link expires after 48 hours. A pending request is not an active subscription, and the link’s expiration does not by itself mean that its record is deleted. Only confirmed subscriptions receive campaigns for their edition.

You can withdraw your consent using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter and confirm the action on the corresponding screen. Unsubscribing stops pending mailings. Withdrawing consent does not affect prior lawful processing, and unsubscribing is not the same as deleting your entire consent or delivery history.

Calculations, notes, files and local saving

Amounts, notes, document or care lists, and other data you enter in the tools are processed in your browser. SelfChapter does not receive these values, sync them across devices, or include them in editorial automation.

Saving is activated when you click the corresponding button. Imported files are read on your device; exports and printing create copies that you manage with your browser and system. Check the terms of the applications, printers or cloud services you choose for those copies, as they have their own terms.

You can remove a saved guide, clear a list’s progress, or delete a tool’s data using its controls. Deleting local data does not unsubscribe you or delete a subscription stored on the server.

Inquiries, corrections and administration

SelfChapter’s form collects your name, email address, reason for contacting us, message and, optionally, the related URL. With the consent requested in the form, this information is used to handle and respond to your inquiry. The message is delivered to the editorial mailbox through the email provider; it is retained while the inquiry is being handled and followed up, and when necessary for obligations or claims. Mérito Media’s group contact remains available as an alternative channel, with its own privacy information.

An inquiry or correction proposal does not subscribe you to the newsletter. Relevant information for a review may be kept in the editorial history; avoid including unnecessary data about third parties. Administrators have restricted accounts for managing the publication and its security.

Recipients and providers

Authorized personnel of the entity and providers of hosting, maintenance, security and email delivery may access the data to the extent necessary to provide their services. Authorities may receive information when there is a legal obligation.

Editorial document discovery and AI services receive public documentation and working content. Tool figures and notes, and the subscriber list, are not part of those editorial assignments.

Links to sources, social media, and other publications lead to services with their own policies. Fonts and icons are served by SelfChapter, with no external audience analytics. The Contact page automatically loads Google location and satellite maps: Google receives your IP address, connection origin, and the technical data required, and may use its own technologies. Its processing is also governed by Google’s policy. The maps are separate from the form and do not receive the message text.

International scope of processing

Merito Media LLC is established in the United States. Depending on the provider and service, processing or access may take place outside the country you are browsing from and the European Economic Area.

Transfers subject to the GDPR require a valid mechanism and the applicable safeguards. We do not present subscribing as general authorization for transfers without safeguards, nor do we assume that a provider is certified because of its location. You can request information about recipients, countries, and applicable safeguards through the privacy contact.

Retention periods and criteria

We retain your subscription while it is active. After you unsubscribe, we may retain the information needed to honor your request, prevent duplicate subscriptions, demonstrate consent, and address liabilities. Pending requests and technical results are retained for as long as needed to manage them or document what happened; we do not announce automatic deletion when a link expires.

Search, rating, and tool-use events older than 90 days are deleted by a daily task. This period does not automatically apply to server logs, subscriptions, or delivery histories, which serve different purposes.

Security logs, requests, and histories are retained while they are being handled and when needed for incidents, applicable obligations, or liabilities. Backups follow their renewal cycle. Local data remains until you change or delete it, subject to the functional validity limits described in Cookies.

Your rights and how to exercise them

Where applicable, you can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability. You can also withdraw your consent. Include “SelfChapter · Privacy,” the affected subscription address, and your specific request when contacting SelfChapter or writing to the postal address.

We will request additional information only if needed to verify your identity. Requests subject to the GDPR are generally handled within one month, with any justified extensions permitted by law. You can lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority; in Spain, the Spanish Data Protection Agency.

Deleting a cookie or closing the newsletter notice does not cancel a subscription. To stop emails, use the unsubscribe link; for other rights, use the privacy channel.

Minors, automation, and changes

The service is intended for a general audience and does not request profiles of minors or specially protected data. If you are not legally able to consent under the applicable regulations, your subscription must be managed by your legal representative.

Language and edition selections, and anti-spam controls, serve technical functions. We do not use subscription data for automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. Editorial content automation is a separate process.

We will update this policy if purposes or services change and request a new choice where appropriate. Changing the text does not confirm pending subscriptions or reactivate subscriptions that have been canceled.
