Controller and scope of this policy
Merito Media LLC, publisher of SelfChapter, explains here the browser technologies used on selfchapter.com. A cookie is sent with certain requests to the domain; localStorage and sessionStorage retain information in your browser and are not transmitted on their own with each request.
Subscription data and server logs are not cookies or local copies of the tools. Their processing is explained in Privacy. This policy describes SelfChapter’s active functions and does not automatically extend to technologies used by other group publications.
Session and form protection
The site uses a session cookie even when you’re not logged in. It keeps messages and form state, allows the editorial team to access the site, and helps prevent repeated ratings. XSRF-TOKEN helps protect requests against forgery.
These are first-party technical cookies used to provide and protect the requested functions. Their duration is renewed through activity, according to the settings listed in the inventory. There is no public “remember me” login or advertising cookie associated with these functions.
Cookie and storage inventory
Names that include a variable identifier correspond to each guide, list, or tool. A preference’s functional duration does not mean its key is automatically deleted from the browser. The browser or its private mode may impose additional limits.
On small screens, scroll the table horizontally. All entries are managed by Merito Media LLC for SelfChapter.
| Name and technology | Purpose | Duration | When it is used |
|---|---|---|---|
self-chapter-sessionFirst-party cookie | Session identifier: forms, messages, editorial access, and repeated-rating control. HttpOnly. | 120 minutes, renewed with activity. | When using the website. |
XSRF-TOKENFirst-party cookie | Protection for requests against forgery. It can be read by the site’s own code. | 120 minutes, renewed with activity. | When using website forms and pages. |
selfchapter:saved:{guía}localStorage | Title and path of a guide bookmarked for saving. It does not store the full article. | No automatic expiration; remains until you remove the bookmark or clear the site data. | When you click “Save guide.” |
selfchapter:progress:{lista}localStorage | Task status for a guide or chapter checklist. | No automatic expiration; remains until you save changes, clear your progress, or clear the site data. | When you click the progress save control. |
selfchapter:tool:{herramienta}:v2localStorage | Values, rows, notes, and status for the organizer or calculator. | No automatic expiration; remains until you replace or delete the saved data. | Only when you click “Save on this device.” |
selfchapter:tool:{herramienta}:v1localStorage · previous version | Recovery of a compatible previous save. No new save is created in this version. | May remain until deleted; “Delete saved data” also removes this key. | Only checked if it exists and there is no v2 save. |
selfchapter:newsletter:dismissed-atlocalStorage and sessionStorage | Date when the notice or newsletter dialog was closed. It does not contain your email address. | Prevents the invitation from appearing again for 30 days. The local key remains until changed or deleted; the session key expires when the tab closes. | When you close the notice or form, or register an unsubscribe on that screen. |
selfchapter:newsletter:statelocalStorage and sessionStorage | Interface indicator for a newsletter request, confirmation, or unsubscribe. It does not contain your email address. | No automatic local expiration; remains until changed or deleted. The session copy expires when the tab closes. | When you visit the request, confirmation, or unsubscribe response. |
External Google Maps
When you open Contact, location and satellite views are requested from Google. Google manages the embedded content and may use its own cookies and technologies depending on your region, session, and browser settings. These third-party entries are not part of SelfChapter’s local storage and are not used to send the form message. See Google’s cookie purposes and options in its cookie information (opens in a new tab).
Newsletter notice preferences
When you close the notice or form, we remember the date so we don’t repeat the invitation for 30 days. The local key may still exist afterward: the notice becomes eligible to appear again when that interval ends.
When you submit a request or visit a confirmation or unsubscribe page, the browser may remember a status such as pending or confirmed. This is a user-interface indicator, not a copy of the email or proof that a subscription is still active on the server. We also try to keep a session copy to remember your preference for the duration of the tab.
Closing the notice does not reject or accept advertising cookies, and it does not process an unsubscribe request. You can open the form manually from the header or footer.
Analytics and third-party services
The site does not load Google Analytics, proprietary advertising networks, push notifications, or remote fonts. The Contact page includes two Google maps, a location map and a satellite map, which load when you open the page. Google receives technical data and may use cookies or other technologies under its terms. Its maps may display information or advertising from the provider.
There is no Google Analytics control because that service is not loaded. Google Maps operates separately: your browser’s cookie settings and Google’s policies apply to its content. If new purposes that require consent are introduced, they must be disclosed and the corresponding choice requested; continuing to browse will not be interpreted as acceptance.
How to change or delete your local data
Use “Remove” or “Save guide” to change a bookmark, “Clear progress” in lists, and “Delete saved data” in the relevant tool. The last action asks for confirmation and clears the form and its local save; the tools may also offer an option to undo the last deletion during the session.
In your browser settings, you can view and delete cookies and site data for selfchapter.com, or block storage. This may end a session, remove saved items, and cause notices to appear again. Download a copy of a tool first if you want to keep it.
Deleting site data does not delete files you have downloaded or printed, or your subscription on the server. To unsubscribe, use the newsletter’s unsubscribe option, or exercise your rights by contacting us.
More information and updates
The date on this page identifies the published revision. We’ll update the inventory if the technologies, purposes, or configured durations change. You can report a discrepancy by providing the browser, page, and name you observed, without sending the value of a session cookie.
